Only my mom will probably want to read this

We had a pretty fun, relaxing weekend. Friday night was spent eating Boars Head Deli Meat Italian subs from The New Deli (Charlottesvillians, you need to eat there. Homemade potato chips.), babysitting some of our favorite children, then hanging out and playing games with their parents after the kids went to bed.

Because we are young and child-free, we decided to drive back to Manassas at midnight to get ahead of the snowfall. Michael had a cup of coffee and I held the tiny heater in my lap to try and stay warm in the heatless Jeep. We made it, then fell fast asleep in my sister's bedroom. Saturday we woke up to fast falling snow and made our way to Alexandria in what quickly became 5 inches. We saw at least 3 accidents on 66. This one couple completely wrecked their car under the Vienna Metro bridge, but they were driving a Volvo so they were safe and unharmed. Wish I could have that car. We made it to Alexandria and had a great time. Got to eat Baja Fresh for lunch - make my burrito "enchilada style" please.

By the time we made it back to the Manaside, the snow had pretty much cancelled all activities and church services. We had to postpone our lovely dinner plans with the Uhls and we were so disappointed to miss another Sunday of Portico. However, it forced us to stay another night at home where we had a fun relaxing evening with my family.

We've made it back to Cville and I am all caught up on all my blogger friend's new posts (well done everyone) and am anxiously awaiting a delicious and fabulous dinner with the Sauers and the soon-to-be Wootens! The incredibly long-lasting month of January is nearly over and my countdown to San Diego begins. Count your blessings because it really puts things into perspective.

Attention All Women

Can I do this? Can I wear white socks with little flats? I've done this with a couple pairs of shoes for a while and not thought anything about it. Until lately. Just a few moments ago in the deli pictured above, my reflection of white socks made me self-conscious. Do I really look like a total dork? I care about fashion, but I cannot for the life of me wear good shoes (boots is a whole different story!). Please weigh in on this and tell me whether or not to keep wearing white socks with shoes like these. Seriously do, I need female or fashionista male help.

Just do it

Everybody read this out loud: "Dear Lord, I pray for no snow on Saturday." Ha! Thanks for praying with me!

I'm planning on driving to Alexandria (for the third time in the last 10 days) for a day trip. More importantly, Portico is going to be awesome this weekend and snow cannot interfere. We shall see....

Rehearsal Dinner Fun

Fun pics from Brett and Nathaniel Baker's rehearsal dinner. (Brett - I know you'll read this - I'm so excited to have you home in Charlottesville!)

Myrtle the Turtle

What part of turtle brownies/cheesecake is "turtle"? Honestly, where's the turtle? There is chocolate, pecans, and caramel. I don't know any reptiles made of deliciousness out there. I made some brownies but I didn't want to call them turtle brownies so instead, they were just yummy bars. They were yummy.

Right now it is 63 degrees and rainy outside. It's 7:30 in the morning and the weather channel is calling for a high of 53 today. I guess the day will only get colder? I opened up the front door this morning and it reminded me of how much I love spring!

I don't like living in the mountains where you always park on a hill

I had a minor meltdown yesterday. The freezing rain began to pour right about the time I had to walk out to my car. I had just blown my hair dry so I had to use an umbrella. In my arms was a large platter of cheesecake and brownies (I had already ditched the second plate of food in my entryway since it was raining) and in the other my purse and car keys. The umbrella, held in place by my chin and shoulder, obviously was tipping over.

My key fob broke off and now lives somewhere in the depths of my purse so I have to *sigh* manually unlock my car. While performing the balancing act, I stuck the key into the door, turned it, AND pulled out the entire lock system. At this point, I start yelling "I HATE THIS CAR!!! I HATE IT!" I turn to see Michael standing in the doorway smiling lovingly despite my childlikeness - and that made me scream even louder. Mature, I know. I shoved the lock system back into the door and hoped for the best. I got the door open only to have it slam back shut, tip my dessert platter and make me keep screaming, "I HATE THIS CAR!"

I don't doubt that my neighbors could have heard me. I know Michael heard me. I am embarrassed. I know that I shouldn't have an outburst of anger like that. I do love my car, but I still want a new one. So - sorry neighbors for acting that way, sorry, Michael, that you had to witness that, and sorry God that I cannot get it right. Over and over. But today is a new day and I have been Redeemed!

Socks

One time me and my college roommates dressed up as the Harlem Globetrotters for Halloween. I had to buy those big basketball socks. I never thought I wear them again but boy was I wrong. I have them on right now, pulled up as high as they can be, and they are keeping me warm!

Whole Favorites

These are three of my favorite 365 purchases. None of them are whole grains, just plain joy.

Golden Round Crackers: aka Ritz crackers. You forget how much you love these nostalgic snacks until you are starving one day and stumble upon the buttery cracker. 365 does it right.

Sea Salt and Vinegar Kettle Cooked Potato Chips: I'm not a chip girl but I have eaten more potato chips in the last two weeks then I have in my entire life. Whole Foods has THE best salt & vinegar chips.

Vanilla Sandwich Cremes: Don't give me Oreos, give me vanilla sandwich cremes. I can't stop with the FDA recommended serving size of 2.

Have you ever

1. Made your whole room smokey just from using a blow dryer
2. Had to wear ear plugs because the decibels from your blow dryer are harmful
3. Broke your hair brush off the handle simply by brushing your hair
4. Smacked your skull so hard with the broken brush that you cried
5. Pulled out large clumps hair that you wanted to keep
6. Still had waves in your hair after 45 mins

This was my reality this morning. I tackled the beast and won. Wounded but victorious.

How can you tell it's winter?

Static Electricity. Poland gets it bad. I shock him every time he touches me. Boo.

Just a normal Tuesday

While shopping in Target today I noticed a woman in the bra/underwear/sleepwear section of woman's clothing. Not sure why she caught my eye but then a tall, goofy looking male Target employee walks down the aisle toward her and asks "Can I help you find anything?" I about lost it! What's a woman going to say, "Yeah, actually I'm looking for a black yet playful bra - size 36C. You seen any here?" She was much more polite and said, "No thank you, I'm OK." I had to turn around and walk away. So silly, why would he choose that moment to ask?

Good news, I don't have mono or strep throat. I didn't think I did, I just went in to the doctor's for my sore throat. Apparently silent acid reflux can cause sore throats too. It's only a sore throat but they still pricked my finger for blood. That prick was so mean, I treated myself to Vermont White Cheddar Mac n' Cheese and a Caramel Latte from Panera. My potential silent acid reflux isn't too happy about that now...

Obsession

I can't help it. I'm obsessed.

Thank you everyone!

We fully enjoyed receiving so many Christmas cards and photos this year! I love seeing your pictures and reading your family updates. Our mail was delayed from the December snow storm so we didn't get any cards until after the holiday, but when we got home, we had a fun time sitting on the couch opening cards together and commenting (kindly) over all the pictures! Keep them coming to Los Dos! Happy New Year!

Weddings in June

My sister is well on her way to planning her June 20th wedding. She's got the man, the ring, she booked her all- inclusive reception site, we're working in the photographer, looking for a church, etc.

She and Matt made a sweet little wedding website, check it out for fun! Heather and Matt

My sis has looked adorable in every single dress she's tried on, I don't know how she does it?! Bek, I hope this post doesn't bring too old of news...
